Everyone has a little black dress or a pair of black heels tucked in their closet. The color black has always been the most fashionable go to color, if you’re looking to make a statement. It keeps us in our comfort zone and in line when it comes to being in style, whether elegant or sexy. Recently, however, there has been a shift. Instead of the little black dresses and black heels stomping the runways and casual streets, nude has emerged as the new black.
The color came straight off the runway. Drawing inspiration from Dior’s wild west 2018 cruise show, we saw the runway flooded with leather pieces in hues of nude teasing that fall is coming around the corner. You can’t deny it, nude is appearing more and more. With the demand for diversity in the fashion world, nude is getting a transformation.
In the last five years there has been a push for makeup brands to embrace that nude does not only come in one shade. Major beauty brands started to create products that are made for women who have darker skin. Covergirl, Maybelline and Kim Kardashian West’s new beauty label KKW Beauty has been praised for creating shades of lipstick and foundation that compliment different skin tones. Although, sometimes that same praise comes with criticism for not adding a wider range of nude tones.
Now, finally fashion designers are starting to reflect that too. Christian Loubutin has revolutionized the idea of the nude heel, with his recent collections of nude high heels and flats that come in seven different shades of nude. There seems to be a lot of progress in embracing the idea of different skin tones, which officially makes nude the new black. Our go to color when it comes to style.
