There are some occasions where you know you’ve met a team that’s going places. You may not know where but you know that you want to know how they do what they do. That was the feeling that swept over us while speaking to the talented twin sister duo, Tanisha and Takisha Williams.
The Williams sisters transformed their passion into a business, Rainbow Fringe. Offering hair, make-up and beauty services to clients all over the country with an elite clientele; ranging from the everyday blowout obsessed, to artists and celebrities, they’ve been on our radar which is why they should be on yours. We got the dish behind how they do what they do and how they got there.
Q: Where are you from?
We were born in Birmingham, Alabama but raised in between Richmond, Virginia, Clarksville, Tennessee and Winston Salem, North Carolina. We ended up moving to New Jersey from Charleston, South Carolina though.
Q: When did you start Rainbow Fringe?
Rainbow Fringe was born about 6 years ago.
Q: Can you explain Rainbow Fringe’s services?
We offer image consultation and beauty services such as hair styling, cutting, coloring, extensions and makeup applications. We love what we do and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Q: What inspired you to start Rainbow Fringe?
We both have a huge passion for beauty. We would frequently be consulted by others on how they could improve their image and overtime we realized this was a major opportunity for us to turn what we love into an actual business.
Q: What is your favorite part about working with your sister?
I know for a fact she knows what she’s doing and we have a chemistry that only we can understand working together.
Q: What was the first thing that got your foot in the door?
Weddings were the first opportunity for us to get our work showcased. By word of mouth, the quality of our work and promoting our business ourselves, we were able to get a solid start breaking into the hair and beauty industry.
Q: What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?
The business and administrative side is most challenging for me. I think artistically so thinking mathematically is not something I always enjoy. When you love doing hair it becomes an art form. I’m an artist in a sense and all I want to do is create rather than calculate! Haha.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring hair stylists and make up artists?
It’s not an easy business to break into. If you have determination and motivation you can and will succeed. Make sure to study your craft and practice, practice, practice. I can’t stress that enough. Practice really does make perfect. Don’t ever get comfortable. Keep learning. Keep growing. And always stay humble.
Q: How do fashion trends play a role your work?
Fashion and beauty; the two don’t work without the other. Most hair and makeup trends come from what’s hot in fashion. We always stay on top of the latest trends in fashion when coming up with new and inventive styles for our clients. It keep things fresh and compliments fashion in a way that finalizes an ensemble from head to toe, literally! Our favorite part about working in the industry would be having the insight first on the new trends coming out and being able to bring those visions to life.
Q: If you could describe your style in 3 words what would it be?
Simple. Chic. Glam.
Q: What are your future career goals?
Ultimately, to have Rainbow Fringe salons in all major cities across the country. Different branches of the brand like style teams that can work fashion shows, weddings, television appearances, movies, photo shoots and other special events. We would also love to have a show in the future. The sky is the limit for us. We worked from the ground up and we plan on taking it to the top.
